Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)

We have developed a very effective protocol using platelet rich plasma (PRP) injected into the scalp to encourage new hair growth. The application of PRP causes miniaturized hair follicles to become healthier and larger, producing more robust hair growth. Follicular progenitor cells become activated, and PRP is loaded with growth factors that promote rapid development of new blood vessels and localized cell growth.

How does PRP Hair Restoration work?

The PRP hair restoration treatment takes about 90 minutes to complete. First, a blood sample is obtained and specially processed to produce the concentrated plasma containing a thick dense solution of platelets. We activate the platelets to rupture the thin cell membranes and release the highly concentrated growth factors. A local anesthetic is then administered to completely numb the scalp treatment area. Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is injected into the scalp to encourage hair growth by direct stimulation of the hair follicle. Your own growth factors then naturally promote angiogenesis and localized cell growth. The body reacts to the treated cells as it does to a wound leading to the same process which moderates tissue repair, promoting hair regrowth and thickening of the hair shafts.

There is no significant downtime or noticeable effects of the procedure. Patients can wash their hair normally immediately after the procedure. Post procedure discomfort can be managed with tylenol or ibuprofen over the counter. Mild swelling of the forehead is occasionally seen one to two days after injections and can last up to 48 hrs.

A minimum of 3 treatments one month apart is recommended; however 6 treatments or more can be needed to see maximal clinical results. The effect may start in as much as a week. But it may take at least 6 moths to see noticeable results.
